Let the great experiment... Continue! Glenfiddich has added a new expression to its Experimental Series, unveiling Fire & Cane in mid-2018. Malt master Brian Kinsman has given some of the distillery's peated single malt a three-month finishing period in rum casks - but not just any old rum casks. He's selected rum casks from a variety of South American countries to finish this whisky, which ought to play nicely with the burly peat notes at its core.
Nose: Billowing soft peat notes, like distant smoke on the wind. Rich sweet toffee with zesty fresh fruit notes and spiciness.
Palate: Like a Highland peat campfire, with oak notes and toffee. Sharp green fruit, sweet baked apple and soft smoke.
Finish: Lingering smokiness and sweetness.

The ninth release in Glenmorangie's Private Edition series is the Spìos (which means 'spice' in Scots Gaelic). This flavoursome single malt is notable for being fully matured in casks that previously held rye whiskey! Not just any rye whiskey, mind you. Glenmorangie's Dr. Bill Lumsden picked casks used to age whiskey made from a 95% rye mash bill for six years as the maturation vessels for the Spìos..
Nose: Bright and herbaceous. Allspice comes to the fore, with peppermint and hay notes rounded off by stone fruit and soft toffee.
Palate: Mouth-coating and chewy. Herbal notes preside, with clove, nutmeg, bitter-sweet plums and a hint of creamy vanilla.
Finish: Rich and oaky, with pepper and tart cherries.

An 18 year old single from Glen Moray's Elgin Heritage range, which is all about approachable, accessible and easily enjoyable whiskies. This particular expression is drawn from first-fill American oak barrels, imparting plenty of vanilla-y tastiness.
Nose: Juicy apricot and yellow plum, with a glaze of honey.
Palate: Earthy vanilla arrives first, shortly followed by hints of lavender and sultanas.
Finish: Lingering notes of ginger and cinnamon.
Country: Scotch Whisky
Region: Speyside Whisky
Distillery: Glen Moray

Age: 18 year old Whisky

Nose: Immediate notes of hay, dark fruit (plums), and chocolate greet the olfactory system. A bit deeper in are the more expected peaty notes of smoke and brine.
Palate: Upon entry, the first sensation I notice is how rich and chewy this whisky is. The development is full of smoke, peat, chocolate, and dark fruit all in excellent harmony with one another.
Finish: Long. Smoky and chocolaty. Hints of smoked meats and peat dance around the edges. The finish is absolutely wonderful and leaves my mouth watering for more.
The “Distiller’s Edition” is a yearly release put out by several of Diageo’s single malt distilleries including Oban, Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchie, Caol Ila, Cragganmore, and Talisker. For each distillery, the concept behind the “Distiller’s Edition” releases is the same: take the standard release single malt and finish it for a short period of time in a sherry cask. In Lagavulin’s case, their 16 year old whisky (which has aged almost entirely in refill bourbon casks) is given a very short secondary maturation in Pedro Ximenez sherry butts.

What we have here is a famous torpedo. As this cigar has been compared to Montecristo No. 2, many smokers or guides say that H. Upmann No.2 is stronger than the Montecristo, but some others think the other way round. The explanation is simple. As said with H. Upmann No. 1, this cigar needs years of ageing to develop its whole potential, getting stronger as time passes by.
