Nose: Interesting notes of rolling tobacco, a little calves leather, marmalade, peppery spices, hints of soft wood smoke and olive oil.

Palate: Spicy and rich with notes of rich fruit, marmalade, malt and oily smoke. Black pepper, basil and nutmeg.

Finish: Good length with notes of pepper, salty butter and toffee.

Comments: The beautiful 2000 vintage Talisker Distillers Edition, finished in Amoroso sherry casks, mixing Talisker's signature peppery peat with juicy sherry.

Bowmore 15 Year

Nose: Dark and punchy. Sherry notes, juicy Corinth raisins. Spices. Creamy, mochaccino, sweet dates.

Palate: Rich, woody, pine oil. Syrupy. Lovely, creamy toffee and malt. Smoky.

Finish: Spicy, toffee, sherry, barley.

Comment: A 15 year old released in January of 2007 from the legendary Bowmore distillery in Islay. This single malt has enjoyed maturation in Oloroso sherry casks.

Clynelish 14 Year

Nose: Zesty, mandarin, tangerine. Smoky.

Palate: Quite light, great clarity. Orange, soft acidity. Dry oak. Mixed fruits, vanilla, leather.

Finish: Quite long, bitter sweetness developing, spicy oak.

Comments: This is a superb example of what Clynelish can produce even at younger age. The balance is sublime and the mouthfeel is perfectly rounded. A great 14 year old Highland malt, quite coastal too.

Oban Distiller's Edition

Nose: Dark chocolate, with fruit and nuts. Salty tang but also a slight fruit must.

Palate: Rich, smooth and coastal, rolling waves, chocolate and dried fruit.

Finish: Long with salt, caramel and samphire.

Overall: A complex, light coastal whisky.

Comments: A tasty coastal malt, this Oban was partly matured in Montilla fino casks and released as a special Distillers Edition.

Glenmorangie Tùsail

Nose: Like opening a biscuit tin full of Digestives and Malted Milks. Slightly earthy, agricultural notes, with a background note of orange and lemon peel. On the rich side.

Palate: Rich and chocolately, with notes of cinnamon and ginger perking things up. The malty notes persist, with a slight green, stalky note making its presence felt. Overall, this is notably fuller and richer than the classic Glenmorangie house style.

Finish: The spices persist as the rich malt slowly fades.

Comment: As Glenmorangies go, this makes quite a statement with its burly malt and biscuit notes. What it lacks in finesse it makes up for in plush chocolate and spice.
