2009 Scotch Tasting
Date Held: Saturday, May 9th, 2009
Date Held: Saturday, May 9th, 2009
A 1992 vintage from the Glenkinchie distillery, aged for 14 years in casks which previously held Amontillado sherry.
The nose is very fruity with a gentle sweetness. Some spice and pepper creeps in with a touch of oaked acidity and zesty orange with subtle esters. The palate is warm and rich with sherried notes. A dark, slightly oily nuttiness develops with notes of allspice and a good oak. The finish is of medium length with trailing oak and nutty notes.
A half bottle of Springbank's classic 10 year old. This was aged in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks.
Springbank 10 Tasting Note
The nose is big-bodied with oaked aridity. The peat is present and quite pungent with an earthen rootiness. Notes of exotic fruits and a hint of salinity. The palate is full-bodied with a good helping of cereal sweetness. There is a richness to the peat, with a dark nuttiness and whirling smoke. The finish is long and crisp with a coastal tang and a trailing peat with oaked dryness
Nose: Scented fudge, sweet, hints of sulphur, rich fruit, plums, cherries and strawberries
Taste: Creamy, plums, rich fruit, a hint of mint
Finish: Cherries, smoked bacon cooked next door
Finish: Oloroso casks
Nose: rich cherries, vanilla, and with a little air and deep nosing some pine, spices, and a touch of fresh lemon appear
Palate: honey and some fruit, cut grass, and heather, some earthy peat, lemon zest, then soft vanilla ice cream, turning toward toffee as the liquid leaves the mouth
Body: very full and oily; an excellent example of what makes a Highland a Highland
Finish: medium-long, slightly woody, like bitter acorns.
Nose: smoke, peat-and-dry, sweet-sherry
Body: full, fairly-thick-but-not-syrupy, not-too-smooth, rich
Palate: peat, sherry

Larger ring gauge than a corona, slightly smaller than a corona gorda, but an excellent full flavour, full strength havana. Deeply complex with much spice and earthy backtones. Heavy aroma and generally extremely good construction. Far better in cabinet selection than dress box, but do not shy away from trying the box pressed variety as it is still a very good smoke.
